Sychronization TFS work items and Sparx WI

I understand that Sparx MDG Integration visual studio Add in can be used with TFS to link EA entities with TFS work items. However I would like to know if Sparx maintans an internal disconnected copy of it or is referring to an actual workitem in TFS.
I am concerned about the symchronization between Sparx WI and TFS Work Item. Can any one dril me to the internals
