JET Engine error (BUG), advice/help needed
« on: June 18, 2004, 05:00:16 am »
Hi,

since today I can not open a project file any longer.

The Jet Engine gives an error: "file opened exculsively or you dont have the rights to view the data in the file".

That happend when the server from which a drive was mounted as share went down and EA had a file from that share open.

I duplicated the file and gave it a new name. Same error!!! I allready filed a bug report, but I need help ASAP. So if anyone can give a hint I would appreciate that.

Thanx,
   angel'o'sphere

P.S. probably related: since some weeks it is not possible to open a EA file simultaniously by several users ... all but the first user can not save their changes, any idea?

I opened the offending file with Access.

Access told me the file was in an old format (likely access 97) and asked me to convert it to a newer format.

I did that and saved it again with a new name.
Correction:
Now I get an unrecognized data format error.

Hi,
there's something about the jet engine that EA uses. AFAIK (haven't my EA ready) there is an option to support the new format which was enabled with 4.00 (3.6 was only capable to support the old format).

To open a newer version of an access file in EA go to Tools | Options and check the "Use JET 4.0 - requires restart" checkbox. Then close Enterprise Architect and restart the application for the new setting to take effect.

This will allow you to open the newer access format in EA
