Selecting multiple elements in project browser
« on: January 14, 2004, 05:53:27 am »
Is it possible somehow to select multiple elements in the project browser? It would be extremely useful when I want to delete/move multiple classes.
I tried to use the standard Windows way (clicking with CTRL or SHIFT hold down) but it did not work. I did not find anything about this topic in the EA documentation.
Any ideas?

Hi,

currently this is not possible. We have aksed for this earlier elsewhere in the forum and hopefully this feature will make it's way into EA eventually.

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for the answer.

If it isn"t possible to select multiple elements in the project browser, is there any way to operate on multiple objects? E.g. what should I do when I would like to delete say 25 classes from a package? If I select and delete them on a diagram they are deleted only from the diagram, but not from the model!

Hm... no easy and intuitive way.... you could delete them from the diagram, then go to the search dialog (Edit > Find) and search for orphans, e.g. objects not used on any diagrams. That would find your objects, you can select multiples in this window and click 'Delete Selected'... a bit of a workaround...

The quickest way I know to do this is to create a dummy package and drag each item to be deleted into the package - then delete the package.

Its still S L O W ! (Hint hint Goeff.)  But it does halve the keystroke/mouseclicks needed to get rid of the junk that typically accumulates.

Thank you for the hints!
Finding orphans solved my problem. Although it is really not very intuitive, but it is really fast, and you can easily select all of the elements, even if there are 50-100 items to delete.
Moving items to a dummy package is also not bad, but it still needs clicking on each item separately which getting annoying if you have say 50 items to delete.

Hi,

The multiple select from project view issue is answered here:
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=suggestions;action=display;num=1081322019;start=0#0

Regarding the deletion of multiple elements from diagram and model, I posted a reply here :
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=general;action=display;num=1080730365

The Ctrl+Delete key combo for diagrams has been around a while now, so obviously the help content fell behind here :(

Thanks for posting work-arounds. I hope the above solution is a little cleaner.

Regards,
Ben
