Adding Ports to Actors
« on: November 19, 2004, 03:32:36 am »
Today I managed to add a Port to an actor...is this permissable in UML 2?

1. Create Use Case diagram and add Actor
2. Select Component tab from UML tool box
3. Select Port from toolbox and click on Actor...

...port is now added to the actor.

Is this valid?

...well I'll actually answer my own question.

Since they are both types of classifier in the UML superstructure then it is permitted to have a port on an actor. It can look a little strange if you actor is a stick man with ports on him/her (some strange disease)

Of course if your actor isn't a human and perhaps software or hardware component it may make sense to use them.
