real team effort measure
« on: December 16, 2004, 04:35:22 am »
Hi All.

One of the task I need as a proyect manager is to measure the real effort used by resources (development team).

Mi question is. Is it possible to record (manualy) the work of the team in each assigned task and obtain some kind of report? I mean, some daily record to control the advance of each task.  I've read the manual but can't find how to achieve this.

I'd like some hint in this topic, including if you know some other application to do that.

Thanks.

Marko.

You can do so by using Element/Resourcing... from the menu after selecting the appropriate elemen. I don't know whether this works well since we capture efforts in a different tool.

Thanks for your reply.

What I've seen is that EA only support definition of effort but not tracking.

Wich tool are you using?

Thanks again.

Marko.

We use Projectile, a web-based project management tool. More info under http://www.infodesire.com (only in german).

Finding the right tool for time tracking is somewhat difficult. We needed more than two years for a decision (okay - count this for our management).

We use MS project server. it works grate and has many reporting features, but in the end it all comes to the reporting dicipline of your developers, if they dont want to report no tool wil help you.
Recursion definition:
If you don’t understand the definition read "Recursion definition".

I know  :( Breakdown of work packages is some kind of balancing act. Too fine grained you can be shure that only a small percentage of all booking is correct. Too coarse will let you loose control.

Hi,

right-click on your Use Case and go to Project Information > Project, Metrics and Resource Information > Resource Allocation. Here you can not only define the resources and how much of their time is required, but also track the progress, either by increasing the percentage of the work completed, or by increasing the "time" field.
I agree though that it is unlikely that anyone will keep filling this in properly. We use MS Project server on most of our projects, we load list of our Use Cases (or list of our packages) to MS Project as tasks and track the progress there.

Thanks to all for your answers.

It seems like I can´t track the team effort in the sense of log the daily work of each developer.

Maybe I must try MS Project Server.

Thanks again.

Marko.
