How to use RTF linking/bookmarks
« on: February 22, 2005, 09:23:50 pm »
Hi, I am trying to understand the feature described in the Zicom Mentor for creating formal documenation by exporting various packages as RTF, and then inserting them as links into a master template document.

I have a template doc, and I export a particular package to a new RTF file (e.g. use_case.rtf).  Then, within the master template, I choose Insert->File, and navigate and pick use_case.rtf.  This inserts ok, but it is not really linked, as far as I can tell.  If I change the use case model, and re-export a new use_case.rtf, these changes are not updated in the master document.

I then tried right-clicking on the use case package in EA, choosing Documentation->Copy RTF Bookmark to Clipboard.

Then in the master template, I choose Insert->File, navigate and pick use_case.rtf, and then click Range... button and paste in the RTF bookmark.  This does not change the behavior.  If I update and re-export use_case.rtf, the change is not reflected in the master template.

Is there a way to synchronize this / automate it -- or do I need to re-insert RTF's after every change and export to RTF for the master template document?

Thanks in advance,
Davis

Open your Word master template in Outline view (see View menu), then select Import Subdocument from the Outlining toolbar.
