Getting rid of 'anonymous' text
« on: March 08, 2005, 05:21:02 pm »
Hi,

While creating class diagrams, I'll often write little textual notes to point out certain features or issues with the model.

So I now have some empty textual notes.. which I cannot find on any diagram.  I know they're there however because the RTF reports shows them as:

<anonymous>
public Text: [/i][/u]

I don't see them in the HTML reports, but I'd sure like to know how to find these 'null' text notes in the Project Browser so I can delete them.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Gary

ctrl-F  - set the Search dropdown in the TL corner to note and leave the Search For textbox blank.  Sort the results by package and start working through them

Thanks!

That got rid of some of the entries, but it led me to the solution for finding the rest.  I had to search for 'Text' as well as 'Note', and then I had to do a third search with 'Find Orphans'.

However, this still didn't get rid of all of these.  Does anyone know how "Tools -> Data Management ->  Data Integrity" differs from "Tools -> Manage .eap file ->  Repair .eap file"?

I assume I do the former before resorting to the latter?

Thanks,
Gary Wong

Gary,
I just use the data integrity check from time to time since it obviously checks data structures of EA. I never used (had to use) the repair option. But  I assume it is something deeper/nearer to Access, because it is in the same box as the compact option which is simple Access functionality. My guess: repair is completely useless ;D If you ever are going to need this, your database is likely corrupted in a way that nothing else than backup will help.

As far as I remember, repair only resets a flag in an MS Access DB. This is usefull in the case the Access DB becomes inaccessable (says it's locked) after some sort of crash, nothing else.

Sorry, don't have a solution for hidden notes, maybe only by searching the EAP file (= MS Access DB) itself using MS Access.
