Export to Visio (no flames please!)
« on: March 28, 2005, 06:46:17 am »
I have a requirement to deliver some diagrams created in EA in Visio.  Can anyone suggest a way to do this without having to go through the pain of redrawing them all in Visio?  Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

OK, no flames  ;)

EA is able to exchange models with any UML tool that can import/export XMI. Unfortunately, I don't think that includes Visio.

Thanks for the reply.  I thought as much but was hoping there was some kind of transformation that could be made with a plugin or something.  I ended up redoing them but they don't look anywhere near as nice as the EA versions.  keep up the good work!

Visio can't import XMI. I've tried to *export* to XMI using a dodgy C++ code work-around provided by MS (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnvisio02/html/umlxmi.asp) and after a lot of messing around I found Together just couldn't parse it. But then, that could just be Together.

You could write an XMI importer for Visio. Probably you could earn some money if you sell that tool  ;)

Writing an importer might be useful since I prefer working in EA but the customer wants Visio.  Something to look into...hmmm...
