Copying a Diagram

Hi all,

this may seem like a simple and basic question, but how do you copy a diagram? I can copy the contents, but that doesn't seem to copy the relationships.

I built a class diagram and I wanted to create a 'simplified view' which had some classes missing; but due to the complexity of the diagram it's not practical to start it again even with the objects created. NOTE that I'm not trying to actually create a few of the object,s I'm creating another set of objects that are substantially similar to work on.

I copied the contents of the diagram and pasted it into a new  diagram as 'paste as new' rather than 'paste as link' and the objects are pasted, but the links aren't.

Any way to paste the links as well? Or aren't they copied?

Thoughts? This link vs element distinction I fear runs deem into EA as they're clearly treated as different concepts. You can select more than one element but you can't select more than one link. Also, link operations can't be undone (this might've changed more recently, but certainly a lot of operations can't be undone, making 'undo' a bit precarious).

thanks in advance for any perspectives,
Julian

Hi Julian,

What you can do is right click the diagram in the project view, and paste it into your desired package (right click the package and select "Paste Diagram...".

Good one thanks Yash -- for some reason I thought 'copy diagram to clipboard' was going to copy an EMF version... interestingly if it simply said 'Copy' like it does in every other menu, I wouldn't have been confused.

cheers,
Julian
