Bug in auto doc generation templates?
« on: April 20, 2005, 08:23:53 am »
Hi evereybody,

I just experienced a strange behavior while using the auto doc generation templates which seems like a bug to me, however I might have done something wrong.
Here is what I'm doing. ???

- select a package "A" in the browser
- Hit F8 (generate documentation dialog)
- select a template "TemplateA" via Template|Load
- press "Save as Document" button and name it "AutoA" and click OK.
- press cancel in the "Rich Text Format Dialog" in order to select another package in the browser

- select a package "B" in the browser
- Hit F8 (generate documentation dialog)
- select a template "TemplateB" via Template|Load
- press "Save as Document" button and name it "AutoB" and click OK.
- press cancel in the "Rich Text Format Dialog"

Now I go to the resource view in the browser and select the RTF document "AutoA" and celect "Generate Document..."

I get into the "Rich Text Format Dialog" and see the package "A" that is correctly selected BUT the TEMPLATE is the one for package "B" (TemplateB) instead of the one I saved togeter with A (TemplateA).

I would appreciate if someone could enlight me if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug.

Thanks in advance,

best regards
Manfred

Best regards,
Manfred

I have encountered the same issue.

What I've done about this, is to use the "Save as document" feature.  Read more about this in Help under the contents:

Creating Documents
 -> RTF Documents
   -> The RTF Dialog
     -> Save as Document

I use this as a way to setup what I want to generate and associate the template.  Then, I can right-click a use the "Auto-Generate" feature on this resource it creates.

This seems to work well.  I only wish there was an "Auto-Generate All" button.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the reply!
You mean that it works when you select "AutoGenerate" instead of "Generate..." ?

I don't think I read your first post correctly.  I see you are using the "Save as document" feature.

I just went through the steps you describe and my template is associated correctly.  In fact, I count on this working for my doc generation.

I can't get it to error like you describe.  Perhaps because I am using Build 751.  Which build are you using?

Hi Michael,

Thanks to your mail I tried "Auto Generate Document..." instead of "Generate Document..." and it works correctly.

However when I use "Generate Document..." the template in the "Rich Text Format Report "dialog is not the one I associated with the document.
So I think there is only a bug in "Generate Document..."

Thanks for your support!

PS: I'm using version 4.51.750 Build (750)

Best regards,
Manfred

Everything works well now.
