Order is not maintained
« on: May 17, 2005, 05:40:46 pm »
A bug seems to have been introduced in the more recent beta versions.

The order of items in the Project view seems to randomly move about. I use this order to help control the appearance of documentation, it makes it difficult when things juggle :)

Thanks, Colin

Paolo also mentioned this bug. One of you should send a bug report.

Since I have sent off 7 bugs in an hour and a half today (including one crash which corrupts the model).  I vote ColinC send it in... If only for novelty... ;D

I'll add my comments. If it would just let me reorder things with 'Reset Sort Order' or 'Move Up' and 'Move Down' and then keep those settings, I'd be ok with that. It is very frustrating that things keep moving around.

Hi Guys,

I have tried modifying the order of the Project View in EA5 however, every order i tried reloads properly.  Under what circumstances is the order lost?

Best Regards

Brad

Brad,

Without testing - I think it happens when features are moved between objects,  when containers are introduced/removed and when elements are moved in and out of containers.

Brad,

I wish I had the same experience you are having. When I opened the project this morning, everything was back to where it was after I first loaded 5.0. We have everything numbered so that it will print out how we want on the documents and we always have kept them in ascending order going down. With this release, under our package called WF2 Requirements, the sub packages are now descending. If I double click on one of the subpackages and then just click cancel on the dialog, the two subpackages change to be in ascending order. Then under one of the subpackages, the items are 3.01 - 3.12 and 3.01 is always last and 3.04 and 3.05 are always reversed. (So it's not always ascending or descending.) I can move them to where they should be (reset sort order, move up and down), but when I reload the project, they are always back to how I just described.

I'm running XP Professional, the Program version is 5.00.764 and it is the registered (corporate) edition, if that helps at all.

Any thoughts?

Hi Guys,

Brad isn't here today, so I'll give you an update on behalf of him.

He found a problem, possibly the problem.  EA was only sorting elements below the last root node in the model.

This means, that if you only have one root node, you won't have a problem.

Can anyone who is experiencing the problem confirm or deny that they have multiple root nodes in their project?

Edit: The positions are still preserved in the database, it's just the tree view that is displaying the wrong order when it is loading.  It saves correctly too.  So, if you can handle not worrying about the order in the tree view for a little while, a patch should be out very soon.

Simon,

I had multiple roots...  But I have so many test models now, in various test configurations that I'm not sure any more.  I'll check some more today if I can.

I do have multiple root nodes and it does appear that the final node is sorted correctly. There isn't a huge amount of stuff in the final node, but it is sorted.
