Best way to represent screenshots...
« on: June 17, 2005, 11:05:10 am »
Hi All,

I want to put some screenshots on my activity diagram, or hyperlinked to an activity element. I have tried using Hyperlinks, but this just takes me out of EA to display the image. Is it possible to say paste an image on a diagram in EA and then link to it, or paste an image on an Activity diagram.

Thanks all, really appreciate the help,

Sam

Just drag (or CTRL-drag) it from the browser and you'll be asked how to paste it.

Thanks for the info. What do you mean by 'browser'. Is it the 'Resource view', and if so how do you link to the image file.

Thanks,

Sam

Is the image manager relevant to what I want to do.

Thanks,

Sorry, but when I wrote my answer I had no EA at hand  :-[
I meant the Project View. Drag the desired diagram icon on your target diagram and EA will ask you how to place it. Answer "Diagram Frame" and you will have a picture of the diagram inside.

Thanks Thomas, but how do I get my images into project view to drag across. Probabably something simple, but I cannot see it.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,
probably we have some misunderstanding about the word screenshot. If you need some kind of bit image inside your diagram you can proceed as following:
- create a screenshot as you like (ctr-print or select relevant images from the diagram and Ctrl-c)
- save the screenshot as JPG or something similar using your favourite PAINT application
- insert a boundary (or another arbitrary element) in your target diagram
-  select that element
- Element/Appearance/Select Alternate Image
- Use your saved image

The way I suggested initially does not work with screenshots. It only incorporates one diagram into another.

Thomas, thanks - this nows works fine.

However, does this mean that images need to be added to image manager before they can be used in AE.

Thanks again,

Sam

Having played with this a little bit more, I am now of the opinion that it is good to handle images through the manager, as you only need to find them once. Also you can reuse the screenshot object on different diagrams since it is an EA element.

Also it seems that the image is imported, so if you remove the filebased images, you still have the images in EA.

You learn something every day,

Thanks,

Sam
