Not Deleting objects in Project Viewer...
« on: June 22, 2005, 04:37:47 am »
If I create an element in the diagrammer then decide to delete it, the element is left in the Project viewer(PV). While I realise this is how EA works in that elements can be placed on many diagrams, it can be a pain if you need to delete the element from a diagram if created by mistake. You can end up with a lot of rubbish in the Project Viewer. Is there a way of ensuring the elements delete in the Diagrammer is deleted from the PV.

Perhaps there is a way of deleting Orphan element(s) in the PV which are not used on any diagram.

Thanks,

Sam

The thing is, that just because something is not shown on a diagram does not mean it is an orphan. It could also be linked to other objects.

I would rather have the safety of not accidentally deleting objects.

You will have to use the 'find orphans' , 'find in diagrams' and 'show links/references' dialogs - sorry if the names aren't quite right, I'm writing from memory here.

Hi Mike,

Yes this looks interesting. However I am not how EA is deciding what is an orphan and what is not, since one activity element that it shows in the orphan list was a subactivity with a parent.

For the benefit of all new EA users who find the current problem of deleting from the model versus removing from the diagram confusing...

I offer the following extract from the thread:
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1112868583;start=4#4

Control-D means REMOVE (from diagram)
Control-Delete means DELETE (from Model)
Delete also appears to mean REMOVE (from Diagram)   ???

Confusing?  Gotta be fixed! Even if only on the menus to make it clearer!

Interesting. So if you add an element by mistake to a diagram then you should CTRL-DELETE to remove it from diagram and model.

Am I correct?

Thanks,

Sam

Yup, having tested this approach, this will do for me.

Cheers,
