Changing Page size from a4 to a3
« on: June 22, 2005, 04:25:20 am »
I am trying to change the page size from A4 to A3 via page setup. It seems to have no effect. If successful I would assume that the dashed lines would change to represent A3 on the diagrammer.

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

Does the currently attached printer (to the diagram) have A3 sizing?  If not, you may need to install a printer that does have A3 paper.    For example, on my home network, I don't have an A3 printer, so I installed a HP Laser jet 5000 Series PS.  I set the printer to that, I can then set the page size to A3.  I don't actually print to that, but it does adjust the page size.

Paolo,
what is the advantage of setting the paper size to A3 and not actually printing at that size? Just curious.

Well, I don't print on that size at home, but I do at work! :)  You can usually auto-scale from A3 to A4 (in a pinch) if you really must print the A3 page to A4.  This usually yields a better result then splitting across a number of pages at normal scale.

When I started conceptual modelling, I used a Conceptual Modelling Tool I developed using a combination of Micrografx Flowcharter, VB3 and MSAccess 2.  I just (effectively) used the Name compartment of the classifier.  I could fit enough shapes on an A4 page.  So I standardised on that.   When you include the other compartments however, you mostly can't fit enough on an A4 page so I standardised on A3 landscape.  Thus I try to keep individual diagrams to 1 single A3 page.

Two issues here.

a) how to get rid of dotted lines that divide up the diagrammer.

b) I use A3 to get a whole diagram on one sheet, particularly Data models. I use an Epson 1160.

Thanks,

Sam

I don't see an issue in b)?

However, I still cannot get the Print Setup or the Page setup to stay on A3. My printer is setup as Epson 1160 which is A3, although when you view the changes in diagram/properties the page size is shown as changed. Click on File/Page setup and it shows A4. puzzled. ???

With this I would expect the grid lines to change on the diagram to represent the new A3 size, but it does not move.  ???

Any ideas,

Sam

Sam,
I noticed something similar today... :(
Exit EA.
Next, go to the printer from the start menu, set the default preferences to A3.  (set printer to default, if you have others)
Next start up EA, check the page setup.  The printer should be the 1160,  size and orientation as you want.  If not, let us know, and reset to your desired values.
Next go to Tools|Options|Diagram - check the Default Page size.  Reset if not what desired.
Exit EA, restart EA.  Check nothing has changed.
Create a new diagram - Check settings are those desired.
Pick existing diagram - Reset the pagination as desired.
Exit EA, restart EA - check the settings on the two diagrams haven't changed.

You now have reproducibility and stability - consistency (that word again!)

If the above Test fails at any step, let us know...

HTH,

Paolo
