Best way to link to external code file from diagra
« on: June 22, 2005, 08:06:33 am »
I am trying to create a link out to an external code file that I am trying to document using Activity diagrams.

I want to also drop my EAP file into my colleagues application structure within 'Documentation', and still have the links work.

I am currently using 'Hyperlinks' with a relative path name for the link. e.g ..\app\login.asp

Is this correct?

Also I would like to change the launch editor as opposed to relying on the windows default association, Dreamweaver in this case. I would rather load up in say Homesite or notepad which is quicker.

Any ideas,

Thanks,

Sam

I regularly use the relative path in files and it works. I wish EA would have an option to automatically create relative paths from the file menu. Once I asked for that, but no one seemed to be interested :'(

Do you use hyperlinks like myself?

I use the File tab from the properties. For example when documenting large requirement sheets I use either a simple tag Answer or I use a file to hold the RTF-formatted answer. I use automation to create a documentation file by including the files. (I do not use Code Engineering very much.)

Thomas,

Thanks for this. However how do you know that a file(s) is linked to an element without going into each element? Also you need to go into the Element Properties / Files to launch the file ??, is there a more direct approach.?

Perhaps it is the Element Browser?

Thanks,

Sam

P.s Just had a look on your website, looks like an interesting company  :)

Hi Sam,
there is always the possibility to write a macro for doing that, but without you have to do it the way above. For my purposes this was sufficient so far. But if you think that there could be an improvement, place a post on the Suggestions board.

Regarding the company: Interesting indeed. Especially the phase its going through at the moment ;)
