Text Protection error.
« on: June 03, 2005, 05:07:34 am »
After I have made some changes to the RTF-template and run a generate, I get the following error message:

Code: [Select]
Text Protection error.

This selection contains protected text.

I press the [OK]-button and this is repeated a million times and then the only way to get out of this infinite loop is to abort and then kill EA altogether via the task manager.

Can a kind EA-representative help me with this one please?

Thanks alot in advance.

Bump.

This is still driving me nuts. Sometimes when I change the width of a column, a field gets protected out of the blue and it is impossible to change it back.

According to the documentation there should be some option available under the Other menu, but this is nowhere to be found.

Help me please, kind folks at Sparx Systems.

Yes,

They do.  But it is ALWAYS better to formally report the bug via the formal channels.

One day, we may even get a issue number by which we can track the issue we have reported, but at least you know that the mail was received.

Yes, best way is via the website Bug Report link.
I must have reported a couple of dozen issues, most of which were fixed immediately (next release) or at most within 2 releases. The remaining ones are longer-term whinges (ok, test & requirements).

But it really helps if you do your homework and double-check your facts, the UML spec and repeatability of the issue, and present a minimal scenario required to demonstrate the problem.

Well as I said to one Architect (when I was a Test Manager)...

"If you didn't put them there, I wouldn't find them..." ;D

However, to give the Sparxians their due...  They have taken them with (usually) good grace...

(To all bug reporters),
I can repeat what Mike said... Do your homework first.  They are busy people at Sparx, if they can't localise your bug quickly, it goes toward the bottom of the pile...

Yes! I second Mike and Paolo. I have reported less errors, but (hopefully) all of them with a good description. And nearly all errors were corrected almost immediately :) :) :)

Hi,
just an update on the "Text protection error" - Problem.

Sparx Systems has answered my Bug-Submission and send me a beta ter.dll for testing. This new beta ter.dll seems to fix the "Text Protection Error"- Problem in my cause (for my submitted templates).

So you all can hope, that this is fixed in the next version.

So for now I'm very pleased with the EA Support!

PS: I submitted also a similar problem with an opening "Select Style"-Box. EA-Support is currently examining this second problem.
