Table Notes in Data Model Lost
« on: September 29, 2005, 06:44:33 am »
We have imported the DDL of our Lotus Notes nsf file using ODBC into a Data Model.  We want to attach notes to certain tables and for these notes to be kept if we Sync.  but on testing this i noticed the notes disappear.

I attach a note by right clicking on the table in the diagram and attaching a note.  I'm using version 5.00.769 (Build 769).

Am i doing this correct or is there a better way of doing this.  We want to be able to see this note on the diagram.

Thanks for the help.

What do you mean by "disappear"? Can you describe the steps that make the note vanish?

I basically imported the DDL via the ODBC connection.  First i chose to create new objects.

I then added a note by right clicking the table and choosing Attach -> Attach Note.  This put the little note icon on the diagram and i added some text.  saved the diagram.

I then chose Import DDL schema from ODBC.  Chose the ODBC connection and select sync existing classes with the three options under this selected as well and clicked Import.

When this is finished the note i attached to the table has gone.

I guess, Synch will empty the current diagram and create a new one. Is there an option for leaving the diagram as it is?

There is an option at the bottom of the import window that asks where you want to import into, the diagram and package or just the package.

If you chose the package then the note is kept.

Cheers for your help.

Just noticed that it keeps the notes even if you chose import into diagram and package :-[

But because it lays the tables out horizontally the notes a way of to the right, which is a bit stupid as the table could be the first one on the diagram and the note for it is 20 or 30 tables of to the right.  Is this a little bug in the re-drawing of diagram?

Cheers

This is obviously a feature (;D) of auto-layout.

Is there any way to get around this?  It will obvisouly be a pain to re-organise the diagram after each synch, especially with a lot of tables and notes.

There are some options to configure auto-layout. I haven't been playing around with them and can't tell whether they help. Probably the best way to go is to import only to the package. In that way your layout isn't clobbered in any way.
