I just upgraded to MDAC 2.7 and EA 5.00 build 772. Back in the 4.x days we had great success with using Oracle as a model repository. Now, I can't get it working.
I am definitely using the Oracle Provider for OLE Connectivity (not the Microsoft version). We are using Oracle 9i. We have run the latest base model sql script from the web site. Before running the EAP to DBMS migration I did an integrity check on the model and confirmed that there are no problems. This is what happens:
During the import process, I am encountering several errors and, ultimately, EA crashes. The errors include:
OraOLEDB [-2147217865]
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
The above error appears twice. I was also once given a message that the schema was being upgraded, although that did not repeat.
The EAP to DBMS upload never finished. The previous error is followed by:
Enteprise Architect has experienced a network error and will close down.
EA then quits, unceremoniously. I have specified a log file location and made sure the 'log' checkbox is checked, but nevertheless, no log file is ever written.
From the preceeding it seems likely that the model is never fully uploaded to the Oracle DBMS, although -- given the amount of time it works on it and the location of the progress bar -- it might be possible that the model has been loaded. Certainly, most of it is loaded.
So, the next step I tried was opening the model from Oracle:
Once I entered the connection parameters, test the connection itself (the test seems to work fine, at least it says it worked), and click "OK" EA seems to be working on the connection for a minute. Then, I am prompted for a "Connection Name & Type," which is kind of odd since I have already provided that information.
In the "Connection Name & Type" prompt I have tried entering a number of things, including the TNS name, the Oracle user name and the full connection descriptor. No matter what I enter, EA experienced a Buffer Overflow error and immediately crashes.
Please help. I'm on a deadline to evaluate this as a possible replacement to Together, and I'm running out of time. Thank you!
