Cannot open project already created
« on: October 18, 2005, 09:07:46 am »
Hello,

I've created a project with class diagram and activity diagram. Now I can't open it because it says :
An Error has Occurred: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file"e:\DDT\Rep.EAP". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

I was able to open and work in the project until yesterday.
Help ! I do not want to draw again this complex activity diagram.

Thank you for your time

Hi,

1. Close EA
2. Look in e:\DDT\ if you found a file called Rep.ldb
3. Delete this file
4. Start again EA

Oliver  ;)

Attention : Make a Backup Copy from Rep.eap

Oiver,

There isn't any  find *.ldb file in E:\DDT directory !
In fact not even any HD on my computer.
Does this mean it is bad ?

I am still getting the same error.

(I've backed up Rep.eap)

New attempt:
1.  Designate your Backupfile over e.g. Rep_new.eap
2.  Open Rep_new.eap with EA

If the error further emerges informs me

Oliver  ???

Hi Bruce,

1. That the EAP file exist, is a fact. Otherwise the colleague could no backup have made.

2. MS Access does not close always correctly. Then the Adminfile of the last meeting remains and must be deleted manually. This is here unfortunately not the case.

Hi vaquar,

I have some questions:

Is E:\DDT  a local drive or a network drive?

Can you open Rep.eap with Microsoft Access?

I have some ideas how i could help you

Oliver  ;)

Hello Oliver,

I found the issue  :D
"Rep.eap" file was read-only,  that's why EA was giving this message. (I wish EA could give this message in the error)
Appreciate all the help.

Thanks a lot

o  Vaquar

We are now testing how EA behaves for Shared model and Duplicate Model strategies for using Version Control.

When using Shared model strategy, we keep getting the same error this issue is dedicated. Indeed, somehow the .eap file stays read-only after opening. I wonde rif this is due to SCC (MS Source Safe) confusion -when checked-out and afterwards check-in, file sometimes remians marked read-only.

Otherwise I cannot explain the problem we have. Anyone having the same or similar problem or some kind of resolution?

I vaguely remember that, once I used SCC, I told it to check out Read Only just to prevent accidential changes. Files to be changed had to be unlocked in the filesystem explicitely. I don't remember the details, but there was likely a switch.
