Database Schema Import Failing
« on: November 06, 2005, 10:27:57 pm »
I am evaluating EA (5.00.772) at my company. I am attemting to import database schema structure from a MS Access Database.

  • I have created a System DSN for the database.
  • I used the menu 'Database Engineering'->'Import DDL Schema from ODBC Sources"
  • I selected the DSN name I had earlier created from Machine Data Source tab
  • Clicked 'Import' Button
  • A list of Tables is shown. I selected All.
  • Clicked 'OK' button
  • Got a error message
    ---------------------------
    EA
    ---------------------------
    Unrecognized database format 'C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\PRATIKK\My Documents\Ark.mdb'.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------
    It fails at the step
    - Retreiving Details of selected tables as shown in progress dialog

Some further points.

  • I imported the Data in Excerl using the same DSN and it worked.
  • I used Access2003 to create the .mdb file by importing data from an existing .mde file(which EA doesn't recognise).

This is a critical issue for me.

You might need to switch to Jet 4 (Tools/Options upper right).

Thanks  :)

Worked perfectly. BTW this option should be default as many people are working with MS Access XP and 2003.

Then you'd find out how many aren't ;-)

I'm happy running my Office 97 and see no need to fork out for yet another revision !!
