UML recognised certification
« on: May 17, 2004, 04:40:04 am »
I'm looking to take a qualification to become UML certified.  Does anyone know of a good and well recognised certificate or qualification in UML?

There are two that I know of:

OMG's OCUP Exam Program, http://www.omg.org/uml-certification/index.htm

IBM's Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with UML,  http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/obj486.shtml

I have the IBM cert, and I think it covers some good material... i.e. it covers more than just knowledge of the UML.  I do not have the cert from the OMG (yet) so I cannot really comment on it.

IBM's 486 "certification" is geared to the usage of UML in the context of OO software development.
[There is no single IBM "UML certificate". s. IBM's training
services' page for detailled information]

OMG's OCUP certifications indicate knowledge of the structure of UML 2.0. This knowledge will come handy
when using OMG's model driven architecture approach.

I have successfully taken the OCUP-Fundamental certification exam and now I am going for the
next level ("Intermediate").

Are you now OMG certified then?  If so, how did it go and what do you think of the certification?

Thanks.

I passed the OCUP Fundamental last year, when they were Beta-testing the tests.  What I can tell you is that it is challenging and you should have some experience on your shoulders.

I would recommend the following material :
1. Download the UML 2.0 Superstructure PDF from OMG
2. Get The Unified Modeling Language User Guide book or another tutorial (for UML 2.0)
3. Get  The Unified Modeling Reference Manual (for UML2.0)

The last two books are optional--you can get similar books--and I did without them in during my preparation.

Kind regards,

Javier
