Compare two models - how to?
« on: July 27, 2005, 03:44:30 pm »
Hi,

Via my own carelessness I've ended up with two 'current' models. I started Version 41 (copy of Version 40) on the 2 July and made changes then, on the 15th July I reverted back to Version 40 which I have been updating ever since.

I've run the model compare facility and it tells me where the difference are in terms of tables but is there any way I can actually 'see' what the differences are so I can incorporate the changes I have made since 15th July into Version 41 of my model?

Cheers, Peter

I'm hoping that the compare facility you are referring to is Tools | Data Management | Data Compare, and that you have at least a professional license.

If you do, then follow these instructions. :)

1. Export each of your views (packages below root nodes) from one version (I'd be doing 41) into XMI.
2. Open the other model.
3. For each view:
a)Right click on each view
b)Select Package Control | Compare with XMI file.
c)Select the XMI file for the corresponding view from the other version.
d)Right click on the view icon in the comparison window, select Expand to Changed Items.

I hope that makes your work easier.

I have tried to compared two packages.

First I exported a package.
Then make a small change (one attribuite private->public).
Then compare current version of this package to the exported version.

I hoped I will see the small change I've done. I was surprised, there where a lot of changes, mainly in associations.

Why? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm new to EA. I'm using v6.0 evaluation, proffesional mode.

TIA Peter
