Repository password location
« on: January 17, 2006, 07:47:30 am »
Hi, does anyone have any idea where EA stores the "saved password" for a database repository?  We need to change our schema password and I was hoping I wasn't going to have to go add whole new server connections on every PC to accomplish this.  Thanks

Hi Jeff,

I am pretty sure that it is somewhere in the Registry. It should not be too hard though to distribute the Registry update to all the PCs.

EDIT: I think this is it: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sparx Systems\EA400\EA...

Hope this helps!

Thanks Bruno, That's the direction I was looking in and I found it in the registry under the "recent file list" but [understandably] it doesn't seem to be where it is actually read from...  I'm going to keep poking around in there, though.

I was thinking it could also be stored in an xml document somewhere, too...

Hi Jeff,

why do you think it is not read from there? I always thought it did. I will try to play around with it and see what happens, now I am intrigued.

Well, interestingly now it seems that does work... it just doesn't work quickly.  I thought in XP a registry change was updated instantly and I even restartied EA.  BUT maybe I'm gettting some sort of second-hand crack smoke...

Perhaps a restart would expedite the process...  but in any event I do have to retract my previous statement because this does seem to be it.

Thanks for your help.
