Export and import diagrams within EA
« on: February 22, 2006, 07:53:49 am »
Hello,

I have the following problem:

I need to move a (state-) diagram from one EA projekt to another one.

I have the diagram and all its elements in one package, so I export it with xmi and import it into the second projekt, stripping the GUID's (as there is a second version of this diagram already there).

Now all the connections between the states are messed up.
(This means: Direct lines instead of the well thought connections
with many manuell adjustments, that I made before.)

Why?

Is there a way, to prevent this?

I need hours to get it looking the way, it did before.

Regards:

Uwe Fechner

Uwe,

Which version and build of EA are you using? And what are your XMI settings?

David
No, you can't have it!

Hi again Uwe,

I just ran a quick test. Worked like a charm!

Here's what I did:
  • In the EA Options dialog under XML Specifications, I checked Export Images and Export Diagrams.
  • Ensured that I checked the Generate Diagram Images in the XMI Export dialog.
  • Completed the Import as you describe.
My diagram came through just fine, without disturbing the prior version I created in the target model.

hth,
David
