Can't find this in the documentation:

I have a diagram with elements on it, I want to create a link to another diagram whe a user selects an element.

Not sure whether I got your question. But you can set elements as composite (context menu Advanced Settings/Composite Element). When you dbl-click them, the contained diagram will open.

Basically what I want to do is click on an element that is displayed on a diagram and go to another diagram

Hi,

that's just what Thomas described. Right-click on the element and go to menu Advanced Settings > Composite Element.

Hope this helps!

I think, as usual, I'm missing something here.  If I do what has been suggested it changes the element to a composite element but I don't get prompted to tell EA what it is the composite of,  i.e. I don't get prompted for the target, so how is double clicking on the element going to take me to the relevant diagram ?

thanks

EA creates a Composite Diagram inside the element (see the browser). If you dbl-click such an element, it will open aboe diagram.

Ah, thanks Thomas, understood.

However I don't think this allows direct reference to another existing diagram, so I assume using a hyperlink or package or something is the preferred method for this ?

That's right. Both methods can be used where appropriate :)

You can fake it.

1) Drag the target diagram under the source object in the project tree.
2) Make the source object composite
3) Drag the target diagram back to where it belongs.

This also lets you create "multiple" links to the same diagram.  For example, I have many examples where an extending use case and the extended use case can be adequately described in one activity diagram.  Using the above method you can link both use case elements to the one diagram.

Hint:  I usually include the parent element in the child diagram - it provides an easy way to access the properties  form.

That's pretty cool! I didn't know it at the time, but that is exactly what I wanted too!

Is there a keyboard override to get to the properties of the composite object instead of the diagram on a double-click (like holding <ctrl> at the same time) - tried the usual suspects!

The most usual suspect that I can think of worked.

Try Alt+Enter with it selected.

Agreed - I got that one, but was looking for something to press with my left hand which rests on the keyboard while I clicked with a button on my mouse with my right hand  ;D
