EA 6.1 bug? Database connections
« on: March 02, 2006, 02:46:18 pm »
I'm at US company that has 10 + licenses.  We're connecting to a central EA database on SQL Server 2000.  I'm currently running EA version 6.1.  The other users at my company are still on 5.x.

The 6.1 bug I'm seeing is this:  If I leave EA unattended for, say, an hour, and come back, my database connection has timed out and I get prompted to re-enter a password.  I do this, but I just get prompted for a password again.  I do this three times, then I get an OLE DB provider error:  Data Source Name not found an no default driver specified...which is wierd because I did specify OLEDB driver for SQL server when I created the connnection.  This is followed by an OLE DB provider for SQL Server error:  General Network Error.

Anyway, this 3 password prompts plus 2 error dialog scenario just cycles endlessly.  I can't even close the application without getting it.  So I have to do an end-process on my EA model, and hope no important data or diagrams got lost.  Not good.

Any ideas?  Any updates?  We want to upgrade to 6.1 as soon as possible because the 5.x versions crash every time we try to generate a document more than once.  But I don't want to migrate everyone to 6.1 if they are going to have to crash the app everytime they leave a model for a period of time.

Thanks!
Brian
