Possible to Export to Excel?
« on: November 14, 2007, 09:42:59 am »
Hi,

Does anyone know if there is a way to export Requirements to Excel? I have some functional requirements that I would like to send to Excel.  I know how to create RTF and then open it in Word, but not to Excel.

Can't check at the moment, but the Relationship Matrix might be helpful. Also you can export via an SQL or you write an add-in (my favourite).

Did you try exporting your requirements to CVS format and then opening with Excel?
Depending on if you used this feature before you may need to setup CSV Export/Import Specification where you define which properties you want from elements.
I know it's not ideal but it gets you there. Of course, alternative is always to go directly to EA's repository and import the data that way.
I hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll give them a try.  I'm a newbie here so I'm still learning as I go.

Kchoi,

May I suggest that you download the free 20 day evaluation copy of Time Architect v1.1 from http://www.timearchitect.net?

As well as being a project and time management tool for EA, Time Architect offers a very powerful sort, filter and analysis function (and more...).  From this data grid it is possible to export the grid to Excel including the element notes.

From here you can sort and filter your requirements by all of the standard EA tags before you export to Excel.

  • Download and install Time Architect.  There are 2 versions of the installer depending on whether you have .net 2.0 installed or not.
  • Open your project in EA
  • Select the package that you wish to export to Excel (can export child packages too).
  • Open Add-in>Time Architect>Draw Gantt chart.
  • If you want child packages too, then check the 'Include Child Packages' Option
  • Click the 'Get Gantt Chart - Element View' button.
  • When complete you will see a Gantt Chart (you can ignore this for now!)
  • Click on the grid icon in the Time Architect toolbar - to the left of the ? icon
  • Filter and sort as needed
  • Click the arrow to the right of the grid icon
  • Click the 'Export Grid to Excel with notes' icon - 2nd one.

You now have everything you need in Excel

Now explore TA... :)

Hope this helps!  Once installed, this should get your data out to Excel in about 2 minutes (depending on the number of requirements!)

Any questions please feel free to ask.

All the best,

Matt
