RTF Generator and headings/titles
« on: October 19, 2005, 01:43:30 am »
Hi everybody,

Although I really enjoy working with EA, the document generation with the RTF generator makes me dizzy! It just isn't logical nor inuitive  >:(

I'm trying to use the RTF generator to document package content into an rtf file that is to be included into some doc files.

I try to define a heading for each element in a package but the level of the heading has to be dependant on where I will include the rtf file.
the headings from the RTF generator don't correspond at all to the MS word headings and mess up my final document.

Can somebody please give me some help? :-*

Thanks in advance

Manfred
Best regards,
Manfred

I too found that the headings were not preserved. I raised the issue with sparx and they told me it was a feature.

I then switched back to the old RTF generator.

FYI here was their reply:

Hello Rob,

As far as I can see this seems to be a feature not bug.  I have included
a Basic Template output using the tree of packages you described. A
Parent with five elements as descendants.

In the document attached the Table of contents reflects the hierarchy as
the headings are set from Heading 1..5.

In the report view there is different sizes to the headings but they do
match the  numbering of the hierarchy.

I hope this is of help.

Best regards,

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your reply.
Well I think I'll have to live with it.  :(

Its's sad though to see that a potentially great tool like the RTF generator is not really finalized...

Sparx, please hear my prayers...

best regards,

Manfred

You are probably best of staying away from the new RTF generator anyway, there are still a lot[/u] of bugs in it, even though it has been out for a while now and the same problems keep appearing build after build...   >:(

a nice day to everybody!

Hi.

I must confirm experience of Joel MELAN, casino IT. I am not able to create deeper indenting (or numbering) in new template without using Basic template. Can you tell, how to do it?

Nalim.

Joel MELAN wrote...

hi !

in order to succeed with that problem of deeper and depper numbering, the only way i've found is making a new template from the delivered [Basic] template

It's a hard work but this works !

If I create a new template, all numbering are at fixed level and not relatives !!

The [basic] template uses "heading" styles (with capital 'h') which are not compatible with MS Word in french, so I wrote a word macro to convert all "heading" styles in "Titre" styles (french name of numbering styles)
