Application_Development_with_EA.pdf
« on: April 03, 2006, 11:01:32 am »
Hi,

Is it correct that the http://sparxsystems.com.au/downloads/whitepapers/Application_Development_with_EA.pdf document is unfinished ? Does there exist a complete "Application development with EA" document ?

Thanks,
Bart

I wasn't aware that this is mentioned somewhere. However, this kind of document will never be finished - see the posts here on this board ;)

Okay, I'll try a different way...
1) WHY do you think, this document is incomplete?
2) There are so many different ways to approach Application Development that it would be imposible to give an overview. Try searching for threads by using keywords like "software development methodology".

1)
- chapter 4 is the last chapter in the document, it is unfinished, this becomes obvious by looking at pp 89
- in the document itself, for instance on the top of pp 87, the author mentions that there will be more on table layouts for creating custom reports, there is no more after pp 89

2) I agree that there are different approaches, I don't expect a "the many ways to develop applications" document - I like this document cause it promises to give *an* overview of application development with EA and at the same time gives an overview of EA without having to search in threads, different whitepapers, etc The document lives up to its promises were it not for the abrupt end at chapter 4

This type of documents helps to reduce traffic on boards like this one; that is, for the ones who want to read it  ;D

Sparx! Can you answer this question? (that was easy for me ;D)

Sigh - you are absolutely right. I also wished a more complete FAQ which users could refer to.
Until Sparx enlightens us regarding this document you should start reading through this board. I know it's tedious since searching is - let's say - a bit limited. But there's really valuable information here...

Hi Thomas,

this whitepaper is from an outside company and not from Sparx.  The company does  exist apparent no more.

We appreciate your bringing this to our attention. The incomplete whitepaper has been removed, since it does not fulfill the role it suggests. It was originally meant to be the first release of a larger document (from an external source) that never eventuated.

We will aim to replace this whitepaper at some point in the future. In the interim, I can only direct you to the "Pitfalls using UML in RUP" whitepapers which describe one users experience using Enterprise Architect and the Rational Unified Process (which is just one, specific methodology).

Have just had a look at the article.

Apart from the fact that it's not in A4 format, the writing style seems a bit odd, as if it's been translated from another language, or written by a non native English speaker (no, not just American ;-) .

However, I look forward to the updating, completing and re-editing of this item, as a response to FAQs if nothing else !

I agree that a document like this is sorely needed,  but as this one is based on version 3.1 of EA and is incomplete it's probably the right decision to remove it from the site.

Documentation of course is always a low priority,  however I would suggest that bumping a 6.1(/6.5?) version of this document up the priority list would ultimately help everyone including Sparx.
