Showing things from other packages
« on: November 23, 2005, 03:33:20 pm »
Im using the EA6 Professional. If I generate a standard RTF document (using the Use Case Template) then the document shows all my use cases and scenario's etc that are part of the 'focus' package. However where I am re-using use cases from other packages I dont get their descriptions. I want to see these 're-used' use cases in my document.

So I cloned the Use Case Template and ticked what I thought Id need to tick...in the end I have now ticked EVERYTHING. I dont get the 're-used' use cases from other packages in my RTF.

If I generate from the root package and dont use a template I do see all the 'imported' use cases.

Soooooo how do I use aRTF document template and have all my re-used use case show up.

Thanks

The only place I've come across this option is the following.  Select RTF Documentation for your package and then at the top of the "Generate RTF Documentation" dialog box, select the "Switch Generator..." button.  In the lower right, you'll see an option to "Document Linked Elements".  After you check this, select the "Create" button towards the bottom middle of the dlg box.

Don't ask me why this option is buried so deep.  I'm going over to the suggestion area to enhance the HTML output and include this option, not to mention the ability to document all root nodes and maintaing html links across root node elements.

Sorry for the very late reply, but hopefully this will help someone else out.

Hi wargfang !

in order to include different packages, the better way is to use "virtual document" concept of EA !

-  You can insert any packages you wish into the virtual document
-  you can reaarange the order in the document without affecting the order in the model

have a look in the pdf help, chapter 14 or dynamic help
best regards

Hi Joel,
Virtual documents are a good idea if you want to include a complete package. But what about if you only want to include a couple of elements?
Also this is a real issue when generating HTML documentation.
Bottom line, there should be an option to include/exclude linked elements on a diagram when generating RTF and HTML. Maybe should report this as a bug...
Cheers,
Mark

Mch,

Virtual packages are as youve stated not what I want (thanks to previous poster for the solution). The particular project Im working on is very large in the number of modelled components and is best described and managed in a series of documents.

However the purpose of breaking the documents up into smaller consumable packages is defeated if 'Everything' is re-included.

With many common functions it would be good if I could generate my primary package and then have any 'referenced' elements optionaly included.

In the end for about 3/5'ths of my documentation set Ive had to manually concoct the documentation. Which is tedious and fragile (as its not generated it would require reconstituting should I need to heavily modify my models).
