Links to other diagrams
« on: July 21, 2006, 03:34:44 pm »
I'm creating User Interface diagrams for a project.  These are basically wireframes of what the application will do.  I'd like to have the behavior be so that when you click on a "Button" that it goes to another User Interface diagram.  This would be on the HTML export version of the specifications.

I've searched and can't seem to find a behavior in the properties of the UI Control.  Any other ways to simulate this behavior?

Regards,
Dave

Take a look in the documentation for hyperlinks. This might give you a way to navigate between diagrams via mouse clicks.
No, you can't have it!

Could you use a composite element?

(right click an element) -> Advanced settings -> composite element.

This creates a diagram underneath the element (ie. button) you want to click on to open another diagram.  In the HTML published version a single click will navigate to the diagram.  You can drag and drop the nested diagram in your EA project view to whereever you want and the link will still work.

I thought about that too Dave. But does it work with the UI diagram objects? And if so, would it leave a glyph (for lack of a better term) on the object that would look strange to the reader?

I've not tried it so I really don't know.

Composite works fine on UI toolbox elements, however I don't know how to get a shape script to override the little composite element glyph....

Cheers,
David.

David

Glyph:
A symbol, such as a stylized figure or arrow on a public sign, that imparts information nonverbally

Exactly the right term I would say...

Source?

I thought a glyph was something that was difficult to decipher any information out of, as in hieroglyphics?

Greek hierogluphikos (hieros, holy; + gluph, carving (from gluphein, to carve.)

BICBW!

It would appear that even with the power of 3 David's there isn't an easy solution.    :)  It's too bad, because I think that would be an excellent feature.  For now I'll just create the wireframes in Visio and then link to them from the EA documentation created.  Thanks for everyone's input.

Dave

Sadly this seems to have gotten past us.

Dave, I do think something along these lines would be worth having. Perhaps you can take the lead in starting a thread in the Suggestions section - you're the one with the best grasp of the requirement.

I'm sure Dave and I will second (etc.) the suggestion. The others have some pretty good ideas too, so seem to be thinking along these lines as well. I suspect you'll garner considerable support for this one.
