EA repository can be either a .eap file or database on a server. This database can be stored on different db servers. Just start with new repository on your server.

Hey Peace,

You'll have to look in the documentation for this, try searching on "repository."

Sparx has several SQL scripts, one each for the various repository types, to allow you to set up an empty project file on your DBMS server. These will make more sense when you've read the stuff in the documentation. How you run the scripts is up to you; Sparx does not try to second guess how your particular configuration and corporate procedures are set up.

The important thing to remember is that once you have set up the repository you have to do a data transfer into it. This imports various basic data that EA will need before it can configure a project - sort of a bootstrap operation. This is in the documentation, but quite a few new users trip up here, including myself (twice!).

The feature you need can be found from the EA main menu - there's no need to open a project. Go to Tools / Data Transfer / Project Transfer (this last might have been call something a bit different before version 6.5, but you'll know what it is when you see it). You will need to give it a 'seed' project, probably in an EAP file the first time you use it.

My advice is to create a very empty project and keep it that way for just this purpose.

You will also have to provide a reference to your DBMS repository that you set up earlier with the Sparx script. EA will bring up the standard Windows OLEDB connection screens, which you will use to either select or build a new Windows data source. Once that's done you can do the data transfer.

After all this has happened, from the EA main menu choose Open (or click the appropriate icon on the standard toolbar). In the EA Open Project dialog check the Connect to Server checkbox, then click the "..." button. You will get yet another Windows dialog to choose the data source you chose or set up in the data transfer. After you've done all this, click the Open button and you're in business. You will now see the project listed on the start page, and the recent project list, so you'll rarely have to go through all this. You can also set up a desktop icon to open the project directly - searh this forum for directions.

HTH, David
No, you can't have it!

Hi,
I'm not an expert with that. But on a single level you can use your Database's user admin to grant access. On a finer granularity you could use EA's user management. This is available only in the Corporate license.
