Activity Diagrams layout

This is incredibly bad, I have drafted a simple activity diagram and no matter what I try, when I use "Layout Diagram" it constructs a ridiculous representation.

It seems to insist on creating an inverted tree, rooted in the "initial" element.

All I want is to layout my flowchart on some form of rectangular grid, automatically, this is trivial in some basic flowcharting tools!!!!
