Merging models and packages under version control

We have to share one large model among ~10 designers.

It seems that EA has no or no comfortable feature to detect changes in the models. Also it seems that EA misses merging capability for different branches of the same model. Is this correct or did we understand something wrong?

If correct, has anyone a best practice how to deal with such a situation.
