EA Help not working in VISTA !!!
« on: November 23, 2006, 11:44:21 am »
Hello Guys

I've just installed EA, under Vista... I was-impressed with how easily this appeared to go.

However, none of the help is available, either from the Help menu or help button on dialogs.

Instead of Help is a message box suggesting a non existent download location to get HHUDP.exe

Any idea's what's wrong or how to get help back?

I understand why Wspelldig.hlp doesn't work. That help format isn't supported under Vista; Microsoft will ( may) provide a download at some point ( 3rd Parties are prohibited from providing it in their setup or downloadable from their websites ). But this shouldn't effect CHM (compiled help).

;D I'd search the help but...

Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Can you open EA.CHM separately?  I have a link directly it on my desktop so I can put help into a separate memory space from the app.

Hi Kevin,

Unfortunately the help file in the EA 6.5.800 trial download seems to be corrupt.  You can download a working copy of the EA help file from the following URL:
http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/bin/EAHelp.zip

Unzip this into the EA install directory and you should be right.

HTH

Hi'ya Paola

If I invoke it directly from the install directory I get this. .

Also a tad puzzled by the shield icons appearing on the two files, this indicates that they need Admin rights.

Ha Hal Corrupt... that makes more sense, will get back to you in a bit.

Thank you for your help guys.

Kevin

Aaron

I've downloaded the zip and replaced the chin in the EA install directory.

But the improvement-is somewhat marginal...

Opening and selecting topic....

I can at least nee what I'm missing ::) and some comfort that I'm not alone... there not a crying emoticon, shame

I deleted the chin -before replacing it too

But all the UAC admin shields have gone."

What do I do now?

Thanks for help,
kevin

This information is relevent for Windows XP, but may help you.

After a particular Microsoft Security Update (which presumably is included in Windows Vista) CHM files can no longer be accessed from a network drive. They will instead act the way you have described. These files must be copied to a local location before they can be accessed.

In addition, Microsoft has forced their Internet Browser "Internet Explorer" to *SILENTLY* block CHM files, even in zip format. If you downloaded the Help File using Internet Explorer, you need to unblock it before you can use it. In Windows XP, this is achieved by right clicking the file, and clicking the Unblock button that appears at the bottom of the properties dialog.

Also, keep in mind that Sparx Systems provides an online HTML version of the help file on our website, as well a downloadable PDF version.

Hi Kevin,

I do not think the issue is related to Vista as we have been testing EA on Vista (first RC2 then RTM) for a while and have had no issues, including the help.

Hi'ya bmioch. Bro u is one, astute, perceptive and clever dude. Unblock fixed it.... I'm gonna be encouraging all the guys in the office to be "more Bmiochic like"  8) Thanks sir.

Bruce... and I hadn't had any problem with Vista either... EA is really easy to use, even without a keyboard (there is one issue with the Relationship Matrix view when used in portrate mode (the profiles drop down is off the screen-I've reported it as a bug in Sugs & Reqs forum).

But thankyou all for your help, and again worry about typo Paolo-quite an unusual consequence that

thanks + Regards
Kevin

Ps. It is a little disconcerting to see 6.1 on the Getting Started page of the help tho...

But it's the same in the online version as well.... and that a cod idea as well.
