MDG Integration with Eclipse does not work
« on: December 28, 2006, 11:55:46 am »
I have taken care of all my licensing problems. I have uninstalled and reinstalled MDG Integration, but I still can't see anything to do with EA while in eclipse. I can merge, but  I could already do that with MDG Link. Is there something else I can do? It could be related to having run MDG Link prior to purchasing and installing MDG Integration.

That sounds like a bit of a long shot, but perhaps it is the case. However, there have been occasional posts to the forum about getting the configuration just right for Eclipse integration. Search the forum for Eclipse and go back as much as two years.

If you don't find anything useful, try posting a support request to Sparx directly rather than through this (user) forum - use the Support link at the top of the forum page.

I did send an email to general support, but I have not heard anything back from them either.

I searched this list for 2 years, but MDG Integration 1.0 just came out a month ago so there was only a few items about the beta. Nothing similar to it just not showing up at all in Eclipse.

Even within EA, when I select menu Add-ins/Eclipse/About it shows an about box for MDG Link, 1.5. It should say MDG Integration if it installed properly, I would think.

From the EA side, have you tried resetting your main menu. This will clear all your custom settings, but if it works it will get things going from that side. Sometimes after installing an add-in this seems to be necessary for unknown reasons.

You can do this from the main menu by choosing Tools | Customize and selecting the Menu tab, then clicking the Reset button.

From the Eclipse side I cannot help you. Still, try the above step, and if the add-in appears in EA perhaps you can then see it from Eclipse.

I solved this one. The MDG Integration program installed the Eclipse plugin jars into a directory different from where I have Eclipse installed. This may have been due to my error. I am not certain, because I went through it too quickly, but I think I recall that the installation program asked once, the very first time, where my Eclipse installation was located. I may have acepted a default when I needed to change the location. After that, every other time I ran the installation, to repair it, to redo it after uninstalling it, it found the bogus Eclipse directory that it had itself created the first time and never again asked.

The default Eclipse location in the installation program is "drive:\Program Files\Eclipse\plugins". I have my Eclipse installed in the root directory "c:\eclipse\plugins".

That would certainly do it!

I do recall that the Eclipse Integration was very sensitive to configuration.

Good to hear you're up and running.
