Ins and out of the keystore
« on: March 06, 2007, 06:26:07 am »
Our company purchased a number of licensen and a keystore from you and I wonder if it is possible to not return the key when you shut EA down. The reason I ask is that some of us would like to use EA when not connected to our network and that oesn't seem to work.

Any tips?

Do a search of the forum, since some approaches to this were discussed some time ago. Be persistent, since the forum can be a bit literal (read "pig-headed") with search terms.
No, you can't have it!

I just set up our key store.

All you need do is read the manual!  :P

It suggests setting up two keystores: one for laptop users + another for networked users.

The only difference being is that the laptop users get a key that is effectively node locked whereas the networked users are still floating keys.

As in:

Real programmers don't comment code. It was hard to write, it should be hard to read.

Next thing you know they want you to ask for directions.

There is an "Auto Checkin" option available on your keystore which specifies whether the license should be automatically returned when the user closes EA.  Depending upon your needs, you have two options.

1) Create two keystores.  One with Auto Checkin enabled (for desktop users who are always connected), and one with Auto Checkin disabled (for laptop users).  OR
2) Configure only one keystore and enable Auto Checkin.  If you need to hold a license for offline use, disconnect from the network while EA is still running and it will hold the key until it expires (also configurable in the keystore).
