Add primitive types in UML profile
« on: August 06, 2007, 01:13:42 am »
Hi,

I'm struggling with profile creation in EA. I can't find a way to add primitive types in my profile  :'(.

I have done 2 test:
* Class with <<primitive>> stereotype
* Class extending a metaclass

But both failed (I dont see my new types when I load my profile).

Anyone knows how to do that?

Thx in advance.

Olivier.

Hi Olivier,

did you create a diagram and did "save as a profile" as described in the documentation?

I worked for me.

By the way, you are mixing primitive types, types and stereotypes in you post, it makes it quite confusing. I guess you really want to create stereotypes.

So what you want is to load your profile and have a number of primitive data types available, like <<primitive>>Word or <<primitive>>String. Not currently possible, but certainly worth sending in a feature request.

In the meantime, a work-around would be to put all your <<primitive>> class elements onto a diagram, save the diagram as a pattern, and bundle your profile and pattern together into a single MDG Technology. The main drawback with this approach is that you would have to explicitly drop the pattern into your model after loading your technology - the primitive types wouldn't get loaded automatically.

Yes, Please!

Olivier,  Please submit the feature request referencing this Topic - that way Neil and the other Sparxians can see any ongoing discussion by the rest of us...

helpme,

Are you able to create a UML profile with any stereotypes at all?

Not sure whether you are having some basic problems - or you want to be able to extend datatypes (primitives).

Thanks,
David.
