Component Diagram randomly scrambles
« on: August 30, 2007, 02:54:31 pm »
Every now and again we find our component diagrams appear to completely scramble themselves. The classes jump out of the components and the components repostion themselves randomly around the page. Unfortunalty it is compounded by the fact that EA appears to autosave without having been told to. This means I cant just quit out and reload from last save to correct.
Has anyone else experience this or has a solution?. It is happening with a fellow worker too so its not just my machine.

Thanks in advance.

Dave,

Yes, I've experienced that but never been able to work out what triggers to reliably be able to repeat it. It seems to jump things around that have been added to the diagram but haven't been saved yet - seems to be certain activity (like changing a connector type) that will cause it.

You should be able to turn off diagram auto save (Tools/Options/Diagram/Behaviour/Auto Save Changes)
Cheers, Mark

Yeah, it autosaves even with the autosave unchecked.
It's a real shame because we are evaluating this tool for wider use in our organisation but these few little bugs are going to kill it's chances.

Thanks for the reply

I reported a bug: when creating a package when a open diagram is unsave, it clobbers the layout. That will be fixed with the next release.

As in 817 Thomas? Or was it done in 816?
No, you can't have it!

Promised for 816. Haven't tested yet and can't do it. Will hopefully post the test result later then.

Thanks Thomas,

I might need to whip up some component diagrams, and would not want this to interfere. The timing is such that I might not be able to wait for 817.

I look forward to your update.

Hi guys, that sounds hopeful. Can you please tell me where I can download the fix?

Thanks

Just pull down and install build 816 from the download page. If you are running 815 then you should be able to apply the patch file - remember to download the new help file though, it is not in the patch.

You'll find a link in the first few paragraphs of the Registered Users page of the Sparx site.
