Carriage Return
« on: August 20, 2007, 08:23:00 am »
Hi folks

Is there a way to get the 'carriage return' written in the notes also be written within the rtf document?

Text written in notes:
bla bla bla:
1) so and so
2) other stuff

Text generated in rtf:
bla bla bla:1) so and so2) other stuff

tx

What kind of element are you using?  I just tried it for a Class note and the carriage returns were kept in the RTF.

Hello Gary

It's the package note.

It works on my (build 815) version, but now I recall this being a problem in previous versions.

I think I had to hit <CR> twice to get once carriage return.  Does this work for you?

Hello Gary

I'm using Build 815. It works with the legacy RTF Generator but not with the new one.

Could locate the source of the problem.

It is the text I wrote. The generator seems not to like this:

<< some text >>

When I write the text witout "<<" ">>" it works.

I suggest you report this as a bug. Use the Report a Bug link below Support at the bottom of any forum page.

Please include the title of this thread, and paste in the URL. This will allow Sparx to participate in the ongoing discussion.

I have the same problem but with the Requirement elements: if there is any empty line in the element's Notes (either in the middle or at the end of the field), the whole field is omitted from the template-based RTF report. The RTF switch-generator works though.

My template-based RTF report was working fine 30 minutes ago... in EA 6.5

I believe this has been corrected in build 816.  Please download the most recent version and try again.

Actually, I found the problem on a freshly downloaded/installed build 816. I already filed a bug report.

Now that I see the start of the thread more carefully, my problem is different from what is described at the start of the thread: if the "notes" field has an empty line anywhere, it is omitted from the template-based RTF report!

Not good.

I suggest you file a bug report with Sparx to cover your problem specifically.

Use the Report a Bug link below the Support link at the bottom of any forum page. Cite this thead by name, and include a link to your post.

Plaese let us know what Sparx has to say about the solutiona and schedule.

I now have an answer from Sparx, my report has been confirmed to be a bug in Enterprise Architect 7 build 816: empty lines cause problems in RTF template reports.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I have reproduced the problem - it appears that it occurs when there are paragraph markers in tables.

I have passed it on to be corrected. Hopefully by next build.

In terms of a short term work around - the only solution I can see is to create a template with the same fields but not using the table.

I have attached one using frames.
<<Requirements Template Using Frames.rtf>>

I hope this is of help.

Best regards,

Dermot O’Bryan

Any chance you could post the text of the attached file to the EA Wiki and perhaps here as well (if it is not too long)?

Thanks,
David

I think it is long for a post (17k) and doesn't work well: the report generated has multiple display problems, maybe (I am fully guessing here) because the frames have a fixed size.

(Frames are Word's text boxes, as used in figures. The idea of the sample file sent to me was to replace the table cells in the original requirements report with these boxes.)

A good work-around is to create a report without tables. Copy the original template in the template manager, modify the copy to get rid of the tables, and use it to create your report.
