Number of licenses exceeded
« on: March 17, 2006, 08:21:42 am »
Currently I'm testing the EA6.1 with a license server.

When a user tries to startup EA, and all the shared licenses are in use, a popup screen is shown to enter
a license key.

This is very unclear message for the user.

Even worse, if a user was once refused by the license server, the next time the user tries startup,
the user gets this license pop-up regardless wether there are licenses available or not,
and the user then has to manually select the location for the shared key.

Is there a way to change this behaviour:
- give a clear message "number of users exceeded" when there are more users than shared licenses
- when a user has been denied access once, no popups when he tries again

this post is more than one year old, but I have the same behavior of the EA licence server. Is this problem still existing in version 6.5? Is there anybody out there, who has the same problem, or is this still a user error?

This is serious enough that you should be reporting it to Sparx directly. Use the Support link at the top of any forum page, and then select Bug Report from the left side menu.

Of course, it is helpful that you`ve told us here in the forum, as it keeps the community aware of the issue. Please let us know what you hear from Sparx.

It's still broken in version 7 build 815.  >:(
I've raised my own bug report just to make sure.

David,

Build 816 came out a few days ago. Please check if the problem persists in that build as well. And please let us know regardless.

A fix for this problem was implemented in 7.0 build 817.  Users will now be prompted if EA failed to obtain a license, and auto check-out details will not be lost (so next time the user opens EA, it will attempt again).  If anyone has any further problems, please contact [email protected].

Thanks Aaron,

That one could hurt a bit, and was less than graceful in how it left the project state. The fix should make things a bit cleaner.

David

PS: Can anyone confirm this from the user side?

Yup - confirmed to work properly.  ;D
First you get a warning dialog saying no licenses available, do you want to connect to a keystore or add a new license. Backing off from this point works. Proceeding to the license manager presents the usual empty dialog but retrying the operation when a license becomes free works correctly - the information has not been lost.

Thanks guys.
