Who's on third?
« on: October 03, 2007, 08:23:26 pm »
A number of the EA windows (such as Notes, Properties etc) can be activated by both the diagram and the browser!

Since this is the case, the appropriate window caption MUST identify which item its contents are displaying.  This is particularly true given the synchronization problems that still exist between the browser/diagram and respective windows.

Currently, if you have a selection in the diagram and a (different) selection in the browser, it is not clear which selected item the windows is displaying.

Paolo, this is the case since I first used EA many years ago. Somehow I got used to it, but that does not make it good. Meanwhile I'm used to remember what is selected and what effect a keyboards stroke has. EAUI :(

As a partial solution, the current context item is displayed on the status bar: View > Toolbars > Status Bar.

Thanx Neil!

A good (interim) solution!  I must confess that in three years of using EA today was the first time I've (actively) looked at the status bar.

Oh, by the way, if you are fixing up the View|Notes [Ctrl+Shift+1] window, when the note is read-only (because it is 'linked' in some way) - can we please have the Notes window not editable (preferably with some indication of the read-only state).

:o Same with me. I never noticed that info at the screen bottom. Btw. it took quite some steps until I figured out where the status bar appears :)

Yes, this area needs some cleanup. Probably not too arcane or a huge job, but with major improvement potential.
