Support for DB2 zOS????
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:03:10 am »
I'm reviewing EA for use with modeling for DB2/zOS. I see many references that the product will reverse engineer DB2, but I think this is really referring to DB2 UDB LUW, not DB2 zOS. Anyone know for sure? Has anyone got this to work with DB2 V8 on zOS?

Why not give it a simple try. Setup an ODB connection and see what EA is doing...

Yea, I tried.

I get the message "Retrieving list of objects from ODBC source"; however, the "Select Database Objects to Import" panel does not populate with the list of tables. I suspect it is having problems accessing the DB2 system catalog tables for some reason - they are different than UDB's, so if the tool was written for UDB and not DB2zOS, I could see where this might happen. I'm able to connect to a UDB LUW database and re-engineer it with no problems, but not to DB2 zOS.

Maybe you have no grant to retrieve the database structure?

Worth a feature request to Sparx.

Before you do that, take a look at the options for MySql. If I remember correctly - and it's entirely possible that I do not - there is an option someplace to specify the InnoDB engine or another. Perhaps there is something similar for DB2.

If not, this is certainly worth requesting from Sparx, since DB2 is likely to remain with us for the nonce and beyond.

Please search my recent posts for a best practice we use to make feature requests and bug reports in such a way that the user community is kept in the loop.

No, you can't have it!

Thanks for the suggestion. It's looking like the tool does not natively work with DB2zOS. I guess that's why we do product evaluations like this. So, a feature request may very well be in order.
