Reverse engineering - java package hierarchies

I have trouble building imported java source directories with multi-package structures.

In another posting (http://www.sparxsystems.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=general;action=display;num=1184766623;start=1#1)
a part of the answer was: "Experiment with the various settings as far as package hierarchies and such are concerned." Which settings are these? How to tell one package where to find another package not situated in the same directory when both are imported into the same model?

please help!
