Links to external models
« on: October 24, 2007, 01:36:04 pm »
In our company we have multiple products sharing a common set of libraries. It feels intuitive to have an EA model for each such shared library, and just reference those external models in each product's model.
I also want models of those shared libraries be read-only when using them in the product model.
Right now the closest approach we found is to export shared models to XMI and import into each model that needs it. Obviously this creates copies of the model, which just wastes the space.
Is there a way to achieve desired results w/o manual export/import and w/o dumping everything into one huge eap file?

See my post in Model versioning and dependencies/conflicts as inspiration.

Thank you, this seems to be exactly what we need, but...

We are using Rational ClearCase without their UCM layer. So it does not support projects, just mere files checkin/checkout.
I cannot make EA integrate with it.
Does anyone know another approach or maybe how to make EA work with bare ClearCase?

Search the forum for ClearCase. Several EA users are working with that product.
