'ref'  frames
« on: November 05, 2007, 11:37:13 am »
I've seen this discussed before, but I can't for the life of me seem to create a reference to another diagram that looks like a simple frame with the 'ref' tag and the name of the target diagram inside the box. Dragging the diagram from the Project Browser gives me a 'diagram reference'. The EA help refers to, and illustrates, an 'interaction occurrence' and says it can be create 'simpky' by dragging from the browser. (I'm trying to draw an Interaction Overview diagram.)

In both cases, it gives me a dialog with the following choices: (i) Diagram frame, (ii) Diagram reference, (iii) Hyperlink.

(ii) should give you the frame, doesn't it?

It gives me an 'empty' frame with the diagram name in the tab. What I'm looking for is a frame that has the keyword 'ref' alone in the tab and the diagram name centered in the frame.

Look up Interaction Overview in the help for an example. In the help, it says: "...simply drag an Interaction diagram from the Project Browser window onto your Interaction Overview diagram. The ref frame displays...."

Hi,

I'm not certain if you should be able to create a ref fram in a wider range of permutations, but what you were specifically asking for should work. I have two slightly different scenarios that provide what you want. I created an Interaction Overview diagram and then:

1) Dragged a Sequence diagram (in UML Spec 2.1.1 an Interaction diagram) into the IO diagram. I got a dialog that specifically offers the option to create an interaction occurrence, followed by the Interaction Occurrence dialog for naming the Interaction Occurrence.

2) Dragged in a Timing, Communication or Interaction Overview diagram. I got a dialog that offers the Diagram Reference option, which then displays the Interaction Occurrence dialog.

In all these cases I ended up with a frame with Ref in the top right corner and the dragged diagram name in the center of the frame.

I think any diagram onto any other diagram should give the option. We're investigating...

Thanks :-)

I don't know what I'm doing differently, but I can't get any 'ref' frames, regardless of the diagram type.
