Shared model not realy shared
« on: December 18, 2007, 11:06:49 pm »
Scenario:
-I have 2 EAPs with all the packages under VC in shared mode.
-I chnage one of the packages and check it in.
-I open the second EAP - I have no way to know that the package I'm looking at has changed...

Very bad.... :(

Martin,
as I see it this is something to be communicated on a second line. VC systems have (mainly) the task to store versions of files, not to communicate changes to them. So far I have not seen any collaboration tool that really supports teams in that task. It's always something you need to communicate (most times via mail or a BB) on the 2nd line. And in that respect it's a question of letting all people know the change process and have them obey the rules.

There is a lot of sence in what you say. Yet I think it might make trouble the fact that I can open a diagram and see the old version without know it has change (and without the "get latest option".
This would mean that if I change a package-check it in-check it out again, no one will be able to chekc it out, than nobudy will be able to see the changes (even if they would know such chagnes have been done).

BTW, what is the rational of disabling "get latest" in a shared model. I'm sure there are reasons for it, I just can't figured them out...

I try to avoid EAUI where possible ;D as it saves me a lot of headaches. So one of my decisions was not to use the build-in VC of EA.

I always wonder what incredible product EA could be without this UI ::)
