Problem Starting EA
« on: January 01, 2008, 10:15:16 am »
Happy new Year to all.

I just started getting an error when I start EA. It says: "Failed to Create Empty Document". There is an OK button. When I press it, nothing more happens. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Take Care

I'm not sure. It sounds like it could be a corrupted registry entry.

Just to be sure, make sure you've tried more than one method of opening EA - from the Windows Start menu, the explorer window, and by double-clicking on an EAP file. [You can use the example file in your EA install directory if you don't have one handy that you want to play with.]

Also, try starting EA from another account on the same machine. You might be asked for your key again. If so, enter the same key as before. See if EA fails or starts.

NB: THIS IS A GUESS. If these all fail, perhaps reinstalling EA will help. This normally preserves your settings, but might react to any corrupt values.

If that doesn't work you could delete the EA settings in your registry. If the 'other account' trick above worked, you could copy the registry tree over from there. If EA discovers that the registry tree is missing, it will create a new tree with default values. Of course, this means you'll have to set up all your preferences again.

No, you can't have it!

Thanks. I opened an EAP file I had and it strated fine. After that I could open EA from the Start Menu. My guess is it was a registry problem that got fixed when I opened a file. Thanks for helping.
