Faster way to draw associations and classes?
« on: January 10, 2008, 04:42:48 am »
Hi there,
One thing that annoys me in EA 7, is the fact that one must click the "draw associations" (or "class" or whatever) button on the toolbar each time that one wants to draw a new association. In many similar applications, holding down Ctrl while clicking the "draw associations" button on the toolbar, makes this "mode" stay so that you may draw several associations without needing to re-click the draw-button toolbar, just click with the mouse on the diagram and you got a new arrow. Quick linker is not a valid answer, it simply is not as fast.

Does anyone know if there is a way in EA to speed up the drawing this way?

With best regards/
Ale

Actualy, it is not accurate. It might be less visible\user friandly than in other applications, but classes (and other entities) do have a small arrow ontheyr side when in focus, this arrow can be either dragged to a diferent element to create a link between them (you'll get a pop-up for the type) or you can drag it to an empty spot and create a new entity connected to the source.

Enjoy :)
Recursion definition:
If you don’t understand the definition read "Recursion definition".

I know, this feature is called Quick Link, and as I mentioned in my post, I don't think this is a solution for making associations faster  :) Thanks for answering though!

There is a list of keyboard shortcuts here:

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?keyboardshortcuts.htm

I updated the list last week, so it will be slightly different for release 7.1. However, this is a list of default shortcuts; you can change many of them to suit your own working practices, using the following:

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAUserGuide/index.html?customizekeyboardshortcuts.htm

There are also a few hard-coded shortcuts around, which I am trying to record as I come across them - mainly by adding them to the shortcuts list.

HTH
