Create instance stereotipes as objects
« on: February 21, 2008, 07:14:13 am »
[img]Hello:

I'm a beginner using EA and I've noticed in one EA file a way of pasting stereotipes as objects in diagramas.

When I create a stereotype and try to paste as an instance of it to an activity diagram, the stereotype appear as a stereotype instead of an object.

Exactly the real problem is when that there is no option when I try to make an object flow link to an activity.

Please I would apreciate some advice to do this task. :-[

Regards.

I'm not complete sure about your problem but you can not create the link according to UML restrictions. You can turn of this check in EA (sorry, forgot where, but someone will know and answer). Maybe you could elaborate a bit on your other problem (describe what you want, what you do, and what happens that you do not expect).

Friends:

Thank you for your answers.  Well Wat I wanted to do was to create a general diagram with all the artifacts needed for a process, then to paste an artifact in some diagrams as instances of the artifact in order to have the avility to change the artifact's attributes in all diagrams just changing the parent.

The problem was when I wanted to make the instance of the artifact an object flow to an activity.

Well, I solved the problem just selecting the instance of the artifact then going through the main menu Element -> advanced -> Change Type... and changing its type to object.

The instance changed its type to object and I could make an object flow from the instance to the activity and I also could change all the artifact's instances by changing the parent' s attributes.

I hope that this post help others.

Thank you for your help. I really apreciate it!!!

Regards.

I'm not quite sure if I get what you want.

It might be that you are simply trying to create a class, then drop instances of that class on some diagrams.

You can do this quite easily. Hold down the control key and drag the class from the Project Browser tree onto your diagram. You'll probably get a dialog confirming that you want to drop an instance (i.e. object); that dialog lets you make this action the default for control-drag operations.

This is one of those (many) things in EA that is obvious, but only after you figure it out the first time. How to first figure it out is somehow left to the reader as an exercise. I suppose that's why we used to have experienced users in the forum community.
